Range VLOG #273 - August 2024 NRL22 Course of Fire Match Director Run-Through
Date: 30 July 2024
Range: West End Gun Club (Meyers Canyon, CA)
Took a day off from work to head to the range and run-through the August 2024 NRL22 Course of Fire. This is a fifty-two (52) round COF with one 12-round stage and four 10-round stages. It is an easy COF with a couple of moderately challenging stages.
I did mess up one stage, but it goes to show that you need to be mindful of the stage description and remember the cadence.
Be sure to download the NRL22 August 2024 Course of Fire from the NRL22 website to follow along: nrl22.com/downloads/
I highly recommend subscribing to @22LimaRomeo for his NRL22 COF run-throughs that are concise, thorough, informative, and well produced.

Funny enough, it appears Eley issued a statement indicating a recall of t...

Range VLOG #248 - Christmas Eve Range Session with TriggerTech Issues?
This looks like shit, you couldn't pay me to go there.
man you really got me thinking about different setups for this cof. i really appreciate these uploads! 👍
Yeah, there's a few different ways to approach things. Some may be better than others for specific people and scenarios. While we don't want to overthink, definitely be open to various options.
That ammo produced a lot of smoke. For long range I'll stick to SK Long Range Match thank you.
There is. Small dimple. On the brass part. What does it indicate.
Oh, I forgot to hold over!!! Man who hasn't done that before. I did it just last month on the clock and felt pretty foolish. Thanks for the videos, they are helpful for those of us who are still relatively new to the game.
It feels so frustrating when you let off a shot and can see the bullet arc low and you realize why while the bullet is falling in your scope image.
You did it the right way! No equipment or shooter error here! What size steel at 300? Thanks for the great video!
18:01 - 10x10 inch
Jonathan, this older video really helped me out, information wise. I recently ordered my own TVC-22i from RRS for use at my range and really love it. 16:18 ordered a JC Steel plate like yours too and like it a lot also, great for the money as you said. 43:11 I was very disappointed RRS does not make a case for it but another video of yours solved that for me too. 👍 I contacted Scott at Sunrise Tactical Gear and ordered a custom sized case for my TVC-22i and some legs wraps also. Thanks for all you do, Jonathan. 👍
I'm tnot sure if it violates the rules but why not stack a couple of bags of top soil directly behind the KYL so that the tips are more visible? You could wrap it in some scrap contrasting color fabric if that's allowed.
I was already thinking about it at the range that morning. I'm shifting it over a little so there's dirt behind it and not any dead brush or dry foliage.
Off the topic. What’s your feedback on the tripod between 2 and 3 sections?
The key feature of the 2 section tripods I use is that they are inverted (bottom segment is the external leg and goes over the upper segment). With that, I prefer the 2 segment inverted tripods over a 3 or 4 segment traditional because of speed of deployment. However, they collapse long, even the RRS TVC-22i Compact which I also have. Unless you need a smaller form factor for transport and/or carry, get an inverted 2-segment.
@@ocabj Thank you. I was eye balling the Fatboys Elevate 2 sections. Hope have the chance to meet with you at WEGC.
How do you like the tricorn barg
I think it is a really stable bag on post-style barricades and gives a wide footprint on flatter surfaces.
I’ve seen other RUclips channels with shooters using a jumbo pump pillow as a stool to sit on for some stages. Your thoughts?
I have a Cole-Tac Mega Bag which is one of the huge pillow type bags and it has it's uses where it is still in the 'spirit' of the rules. Sitting on it? I'd have to see how it's being sat on and what the stage entails, but that feels like it is not in the spirit of the rules/stage.
@@ocabj Ahaha I think he might be talking about Ben, so far he is the only RUclipsr I saw sit on the mega. ruclips.net/video/mgAQi8Fq0UI/видео.html I will say do it only if you have issue kneeling
Wow, differing opinions here 36:07. I think the Pyramid, and Trap stages offer the most familiarity with positioning. The Chair/bucket barrel/block add difficulty, with reacquisition, holds, movement, and order. I'm excited to do some data mining later in the month to see what people ACTUALLY struggle with. Great Videos as always. Oh and real quick: How heavy is your rig?
Just put it on a scale. 19 lb 10 oz without bipod. +/- a few ounces because I didn't weigh with a sendit level but had a small MLOK Picatinny rail section on the left grip side.
Excellent analysis. Appreciate the detailed work! Thank You, Good Sir! FMR Intelligence Officer
Don't feel too bad about the minor brain farts. I frequently have similar issues when I'm the match director and trying to set up just before the match. You have to handle questions from the competitors and have multiple other issues on your mind. Your own stage plan and performance typically take a back seat to your MD duties. Great Vlog. I very much appreciate the effort you put forth editing and publishing these.
this looks fun
That cerakote job on the one in the thumb nail is awesome. i just sent my chassis off for cerakote. it's gonna be a multi color battle worn. I hope it turns out just a sweet
Yup, it's a pretty cool look in-person.
Eley Black i find is good
Thanks for informative video. I have a CZ 452 and a Tikka T3X in 308. From your experience would you recommend this over my CZ? The Tikka interests me now after I found out it is very similar to my 308 I hunt with and thought it might be good to train with and squirrel hunting. Thank you.
Yes, the T1x is a solid rifle. If you want to mirror your T3x, then the T1x is a good way to go.
I am going to buy a Garmin then I am going to shoot at my Lab Radar down range six shots into one hole and let my new Garmin read the FPS. I hate my Lab Radar and my Magneto Speed with its 10 different accessories.
My results were also disappointing with groups of 3/4" at 50 yards and ES of over 40 fps!
Sounds better than my groups at 50... :P
I appreciate your tour on each month’s COF, learning more as I watch! Hopefully it helps this weekend 👊🏿
Great Video Man !!! There is something BAD WRONG with that ammo
my auto loader loves ely Tenex,,, what scope are you running?
Zero Compromise Optic ZC527
Just picked up a different lot -30076, I will let you know if I see similar results. Got it from Bruno's yesterday and they had 10 cases of the stuff, but I see that it got pulled from their website today so I'm not optimistic.
Brutal. At least you know you have an affected lot. I wonder what Eley thinks the issue is, those chrony numbers are pretty crappy too.
Yeah, I can't imagine what the root cause is. I'm curious how many different lots Eley released of Ultra ELR.
I almost wonder if a lot of Eley Club or Team got mislabeled because no one can get it to shoot
@@CopperStarPrecision If it was a mislabeling,, I would have significant concern over Eley operations.
Nice job calling out bad ammo. 👍👍
Nice test it sucked in both of my rifles and ELEY just released a recall on batch 3124-30072 you have to contact ELEY directly
Good test. I get the recall, but you are not the first person I’ve seen test this ammo and had less than stellar results. And I like Eley.
The fact that you are having to shoot at IPSC sized targets instead of trying to print a sub MOA group speaks for itself. Thanks for the Video!
Have you tried the vortex radian or switchback?
I have not personally used a Vortex tripod. I've seen a few at our NRL22 matches and they look pretty beefy and on par with Leofoto tripods.
Good groups
Have you had any luck? Im having the same issues
@@elicbrewer I ordered some parts to make a custom switch. It appears the one off Amazon is unreliable. instagram.com/reel/C9bHR4EPuE4/
I ordered the LS 323c. Would it have that kind of flex shooting from the sitting position? I assume most of the flex is coming from the lower legs?
Really appreciate your help keeping it real. Way to be honest. Great information for us thinking about jumping into this
Are you still happy with the 13 twist, or would you rather choose a 16 twist today? I'm also going to order one of these barrels, but I don't know which twist rate I should go for.
@@Brotrindenvogel In all honesty, I’m not seeing any gains on the short course (100) which is what I normally shoot. So if given the choice of only one, I’d just say go 1:16. But this is my second Vudoo, so it’s nice to have 1:16 and 1:13 to play with .
So what Vortex binoculars do you recommend for someone who doesn't own any?
From what I've held, get at least the Viper HD. Make sure they are the post-2018 revision (cross reference the model number on the Vortex site with the retailer you're buying from). This assumes you want something above bare entry level.
What optic cover is that?
scopechaps.com
i like the ely tenx
that trigger reset has nothing to do with the ammo ,its a trigger problem.....
The Garmin is too close to the muzzle. It should be 5 to 35cm behind it.

Digging the scope caps/mount/optic. I have a feeling I know where you got them from :) -Tony from MKM
I don’t have one yet, the pics I sent you were of my buddy’s set up. I’m going to watch shooters use them in the upcoming matches and see if I’ll pick one up myself… I really like using my strong hand to hit the start switch on my current timer set up, so I would probably want to use the crush it with a pressure switch.
My bad. I assumed that one was yours. I need to test out the pressure switch in live fire drills. However, I am concerned that the activation with the pressure switch I picked up off Amazon is not 100% consistent.
Price tag is steep, but it is super clean. I imagine they will integrate the send-it level and timer in a future generation. I always set my par time to 2 seconds under stage time to account for reacting to the stage timer. Also having the option for a pressure switch is a huge bonus and makes it more versatile in mounting positions.
I think the best option for a combo unit is to partner with Brandt Built Concepts and have the level read out off the unit and go with the ocular LEDs. It *should* keep the until small. I am thinking about a -1 offset. As far as the pressure switch, the one I have is not 100% turning on the timer. Not sure why.
Big no for the price point, great product and spend tens of thousands on gear but it’s priced DOUBLE what it is worth. Just buy an Apple Watch for that money 🤦♂️
@@leadmonkey I considered one because I bought my dad an Apple Watch. UI requires distinct touches. Need something that will work with gross motor skills.
I said, "June 12" at the opening of the vlog. Misspoke since it is actually July.
yes.
Do you have a recommendation on a quality 2.5mm pressure switch? I've been looking around and nothing pops up. I use Surefire lights which don't use 2.5mm switches.
@@ocabj Apologies. I really do not. I am just black boxing the problem across the internet, and my first suspect would be the cheapest made part. I also only use Surefire.
Mine must be faulty then I've never got ranges anywhere close to that during PRS matches
So which chassis would you prefer for center fire prs? And is that a schmedium or OG shooting bag? Super nice rimfire!
I have a hard time recommending one chassis over the other. As far as the bag, I'm indifferent. I think I would go with the schmedium; heavy fill if you're on flat range and git lite if you're in the field (or field match like NRL Hunter)>
@@ocabj 🫡thanks!
